Seeking any information regarding the Wakelin and Heness families. I am a direct descendant of convict Walter Heness, transported to Sydney in 1822 on the convict ship ‘The Mary II’. He married another convict, Sarah Hall (transp. ‘Lucy Davidson’ 1829), and he died at Golden Gully in 1863. One of the 10 children of Walter and Sarah was Rebekah Heness, who married William Henry Wakelin in 1861. They had 7 children, including Walter John Wakelin, born in 1877 at Tambaroora. Walter is my great grandfather. I am interested in finding out what role, if any, the Heness and Wakelins played in the pioneering of Hill End and the Tambaroora district. I am also seeking information about whether Rebekah and William were married in Hill End-Tambaroora, and the whereabouts of Walter Heness’s burial site, which I presume is in the district. Any leads or details concerning the above would be greatly appreciated. Mark
