Sites of Wonderous Treasures…the story of Hill End PLUS Exploring Hill End – Hawkins Hill
Bathurst, N.S.W. : NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, 1989.
Sold together as a 2 book pack
Originally published in 1989, these two publications, which have recently been made available to the Gathering Group to sell through the Family History Centre are also now also available through our website. We are selling them as a 2 book pack.
Sites of Wondrous Treasure is a 48 page indexed A4 “potted history” of Hill End and includes many photographs, old & new, as well as maps, illustrations, and information.
Exploring Hill End – Hawkins Hill brings together first-hand newspaper reports, maps, and photographs of the famed Hawkins Hill Mines. It also includes a foldout copy of Merlin’s 1872 panorama of Hawkins Hill showing all the mine sites.
While some information relating to the self-guided tour of the area is now out of date, due to a current mining lease on part of it, it still presents an account of the mining practices and conditions that existed during the heyday of Hill End’s history. This book provides informed background information for any descendants whose forebears may have worked on “the Hill”.
